What is Approximately Normal about?

Hello! I'm James Fields and I've been teaching math and computer science for 15 years at the high school and college levels. I've heard a lot of questions from students during my time teaching. Can I predict a stock's price? How does AI work? Is the NFL rigged? Should I buy a lottery ticket when I'm 18?

Over the years, I've been using data more and more with my students to help them answer their questions and makes sense of their world. I've seen students become more engaged and more curious as we've used more data, and that's why I started Approximately Normal. My mission is to teach people skills to make data-driven decisions.
